Off-White™ front man, Virgil Abloh, has almost single-handedly flipped the sneaker industry on its head with the arrival of his revolutionary “The Ten” collection alongside Nike. Within that collaborative framework, Abloh singled out a handful of sneaker silhouettes to creatively inflect, several of which haven’t seen the light of day in years. It’s this specific practice that has sneaker heads far and wide pondering which model Abloh will choose to rework next.
With that in mind, the artist recently unveiled a new Air Jordan 5 model, which will likely have Jordan Brand loyalists jumping with joy. First spotted in Paris during Off-White™’s Fall/Winter 2020 runway show, the shoe resembles the OG “Black/Metallic” colorway that dropped in 2016, however, does deviate from the original. A thin synthetic TPE material swathes the upper with Michael Jordan’s famous 23 hitting the lateral counter, and Nike Air branding catching some shine on the heel.
Elsewhere, the new iteration spotlights the easily-recognizable mesh netting on both, the medial and later sides, of which the former conceals Abloh’s signature Helvetica text. Speckled grey detailing found on the midsole, along with the translucent panels hitting portions of the outsole finish off the look, doing well to tie everything together.
Release details have still yet to be confirmed, however, be sure to check back for more information. In keeping with Nike, be sure to scope out COMME des GARÇONS’s latest Nike Air Max 95 rendition.
