With Paris Fashion Week in full swing, fashion faithfuls have lined the streets of the French capital in the hopes of checking out the latest offerings from such designers as Virgil Abloh. In the hours leading up to Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2020 showcase, the Chicago-bred artist unveiled Off-White™’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection, while also uncovering his new home goods installation housed within Galerie kreo.
Entitled “Efflorescence,” the 20-piece exhibit casts a spotlight on new furniture designs hatched through Abloh’s brutalist design frame. A whimsical assortment of coffee table consoles, floor mirrors, ceramics, and chairs inform the space, which when deliberately spread out in the manner Abloh intended, better resembles an immersive art installation than it does a furniture lookbook. As for construction, “I created these forms in concrete that bridge a space between sculpture and useful object. The namesake of the exhibition, “Efflorescence” refers to the flower bomb effect that these objects would incur in an urban environment” explained Abloh.
Moreover, the decorative perforations and neon-tinged graffiti tags emblazoned on each add extra layers of creative depth, transforming expertly-crafted objects into expressive pop-culture showpieces.
“Efflorescence” is currently showing at Galerie kreo in Paris and will do so until April 10. In other design news, Dior and Rimowa dropped a range of luggage-style clutches.
