Outside of his hip-hop rap persona, Tyler, The Creator has forged quite a formidable fashion empire. Over the past few years, the eccentric artist has positioned his GOLF WANG imprint amongst other streetwear heavyweights, with an artistic oeuvre that sees garish prints and loud tonal pops purveyed across a sea of sportswear-centric staples. Often juxtaposed against statement GOLF WANG wares are signature sneaker iterations taken from Tyler’s collaborative venture alongside Converse.

In relation to the latter, the multifaceted creative has since identified the latest muse to be featured within his rolling Artist Series initiative. On-the-rise hotshot, Spencer McMullen, was handpicked by the Flower Boy hitmaker to inflect a pair of Chuck 70 sneakers in the best way he knows how; hand drawn illustrations.

“After growing up with the brand, applying my artwork to this sneaker was really a dream come true. But I didn’t want to disrupt the silhouette too much, because it is perfect in its simplicity. So, over a few months, I worked on new drawings and paintings to feature on the canvas, pulling inspiration from real stories that are documented around me – like books and photos on the internet of my life back in Jacksonville. I also kept a new, blank Chuck 70 on my desk to look at every day and I spread all my work on the floor around me to assess and arrange in different ways,” as described by McMullen.

The new artist-designed Chuck 70 will hit Converse’s web store on April 23. Meanwhile, in other sneaker news, Vetements unveiled a new graffiti-embellished runner for spring.
