Los Angeles-based PLEASURES returns once again for Summer 2020 with a new collection meant to shock and awe. Those familiar with the label will instrantly recognize its brand of quirky subversion plastered across a range of streetwear staples. As colorful as is expressive, the seasonal offering pits a swarm of playful imagery against descriptive tag lines—many of which address a “new normal,” post-pandemic way of life.
For instance, images displaying how to properly wash/soap your hands completely envelops a clean button-down shirt, while a black tee fronts the text “working from home” alongside pipe paraphernalia; both of which alludes to home life amidst quarantine-style lockdown. Elsewhere, a full-on green sweatsuit does well to grab attention with a graphic bar chart render positioned alongside the expression “Pain Tolerance” appointed as its creative apex. Many of the images used to underscore the range’s key pieces commemorate a handful of artists, including visual artist DJ Healthy, graphic artist Zach Halfhill, painter Casson, French illustrator Regards Coupables and legendary recording artists The Flaming Lips.
