In looking at the lay of the land for the growing NFT market, one thing remains abundantly clear; artists like Johnny Depp are finding ways to leverage their personal portfolios as a way to offer something of value no one else has access to. The critically acclaimed actor transformed some of his original paintings into themed NFTs. Titled ‘Never Fear Truth’, the collection is a way for Depp to intertwine a trio of passions near and dear to his art; his love for family & friends, charitable causes he devotes time to, and his own creative catalog of art.
Aside from his own flesh and blood, Lily-Rose, Johnny Depp created digital portraits of such icons including Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Hunter S. Thompson, Heath Ledger, Tim Burton, Depp’s late dog Mooh, Depp himself, and a fictional character created by his son, called Bunnyman. Consisting of 11,111 NFTs, 25 percent of proceeds from sales will go towards different organizations he directly supports or is somehow involved with the subjects within his work. The Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Perth Children’s Hospital and The Gonzo Trust, are a few institutions believed to be involved.
“I’ve always used art to express my feelings and to reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire. My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves. In turn, we decided to release a series of portraits, but in a way that could also give something back. Having the opportunity to salute my supporters and support the charities that have been so important to my family is an incredible gift. I hope we can create a new community of friends around these NFTs. My involvement in the NFT space has just begun” Depp explained in a statement.
10,000 NFTs went live on January 26 through the project’s official website, with the remaining 1,111 designs being reserved for fans and charities who have supported Johhny Depp over the years.
In case you missed it earlier, a digital coin collector created an NFT collection derived from a McDonald’s employee application form.
