Nike and COMME des GARÇONS flaunt a relationship that dates back years. Together, the pair have continuously churned out luxe iterations of several Swoosh staples, including the Air Max 95, Dunk Low, Shox TL, and Waffle Racer, amongst others. Elaborating more on the latter brings us back to 2017, when the high-fashion house and sportswear giant last linked up on the shoe.
Stylistically similar to their last Racer, this new iteration, too, makes use of a somber, “Triple Black” scheme, although, in a way that disrupts the silhouette’s clean composition. Nike does away with the pristine nylon framework employed earlier, and instead opts for quality suede panels as the shoe’s key textile. Elaborate denim Swooshes—imprinted on both, the medial and lateral sides—give prominence to frayed edging details, much in the same way CdG inflected the Air Max 95. The trim EVA foam midsole, along with the waffle rubber outsole housed down below provide the finishing touches to the retro throwback.
The COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Waffle Racer is expected to retail for a price of $228 USD and will eventually make its way to select stockists, like Dover Street Market at the end of the month. Elsewhere in the sneaker world, be sure to check out the all-new Jordan Air Max 200.
