No stranger to the world of progressive garment design, Angelo Baque is a creative talent whose expertise extends beyond casual streetwear. The former Supreme Brand Director had aspirations of breaking out onto his own, and eventually laid the groundwork to establish his own double-dip design initiative—referring of course to Awake NY and Baque Creative Agency. Awake NY is the platform where Baque scratches his sartorial itch, creating expressive capsules anchored around New York nostalgia with underlying social considerations often imbued throughout.
With the Spring/Summer 2020 season now in full swing, the aforementioned imprint recently unveiled its latest seasonal offering, fronting a rash of cues that thematically address political unrest with subtle splashes of playful subversion thrown in for good measure. Part of the range is a unisex T-shirt featuring an image of none other than Nelson Mandela. Offered in both black and white, the tee gives prominence to a front-facing image of the famed activist with the phrase “FOOLS MULTIPLY WHEN MEN ARE SILENT” completely encircling the pictorial.
