Very much in line with what we have seen from Takashi Murakami and Daniel Arsham, Tom Sachs is another contemporary artist who has been instrumental in bringing art and streetwear to the collective design table. Originally unveiled at his “Tea Ceremony” exhibit in Tokyo, Sachs’s NIKECRAFT Transitions collection is now preparing to hit the streets for its global release.
The artist first teased the masses with his avant-garde Mars Yard Overshoe, which in many ways resembles a chunky field boot wrapped in a drawstring paper bag. Spacesuit-inspired boot aside, the Explosive Poncho—fashioned from the same Dyneema®️ fabric that lines the shoe—stands out as a key component. A Nike Swoosh and an American flag lines the front, while basic construction notes come scrawled on the back. Rounding out the range is a decorative waist pouch, padded down shorts, a long-sleeved crewneck and an astronaut-inspired cap.
Look for the Tom Sachs x NIKECRAFT Transitions collection to hit retailers on February 15. Speaking of noteworthy collaborations, Nike enlisted the help of some of noteworthy designers for its 2020 Summer Olympics capsule.
