Over the years, Nike and Slam Jam have done well to combine the worlds of sportswear design and retail, coming together to remix a handful of signature sneaker silhouettes. In 2019, for instance, the Milan-based powerhouse set a laser-like focus upon the Nike Blazer with several intriguing models surfacing to the forefront. New for the upcoming fall/winter season are these innovative Dunk reworks, one clad in “Light Gray” and the other in “Black.”
Both are fashioned from a healthy mix of traditional leather and suede, however, do flaunt a throng of expressive design tweaks completely unique to this partnership. Along the side panel sits a Swoosh forged from pliable rubber that wraps around the heel to form a makeshift pull tab. Sitting just below is an ornamental perforation line, which also shows up on the toe box as a vertical stripe making its way up the vamp. Other noteworthy accents include a flipped branded Nike tongue tag, and an icy translucent midsole.
When asked to comment on the shoe, Slam Jam owner Luca Benini explains, “I remember one of my first contacts with the Dunk happened thanks to the Air Jordan when they came out in 1985. I then discovered its inspirational role. This Dunk expresses the values of simplicity and the attention to innovative details, which alongside our rebel attitude, define the Slam Jam DNA.”
For those interested, the “Light Gray” pair will hit Slam Jam’s website on October 3, while the “Black” pair receives an October 30 drop date. In other sneaker news, relieve the magic with the Air Jordan 4 “Fire Red.”
