Raf Simons has successfully carved out a niche in the contemporary menswear space with designs that preach clean sophistication, though through an unruly urban lens. The Belgian designer delivered his eponymous label’s Fall/Winter 2020 show to the bustling streets of the French capital for Paris Fashion Week, and in doing so, informed those in attendance about “SOLAR YOUTH”—a myth centered around a group of individuals who departed earth as children, only later to return as an elite community.

Clean lines and form-fitting silhouettes emanate right from the opening look, with models decked out in slim suits, straight-legged trousers and structured overcoats from end-to-end. Part regal, yet part restrictive, the former shows its face through metallic neck wraps and shimmery coats, while scarves that bind the upper body along with furry hand muffs do well to portray the latter. Outerwear proved an interesting point of reference as the luxury label rotated from oversized Macs and fur-lined overcoats to varsity jackets and boxy tuxedo blazers.

Raf Simons even called attention over to his (RUNNER) project—a brand new sportswear-influenced footwear range. Fashioned primarily from leather and suede, Simons introduced eight styles in a range of hues that also touch on the collection’s deliberate space narrative. Referencing names such as, “SOLARIS,” “ANTEI,” “CYLON,” “ORION,” and “2001” back the notion of an intergalactic call to action.
