Thanks in part to such creatives as Virgil Abloh, Supreme, Travis Scott and others, Nike SB’s time-honored Dunk series has once again been thrust into the sneaker spotlight. Over the past few years, the retro runner has hit the scene in a barrage of expressive iterations, with yet another new variant waiting in the wings. And now, with Valentine’s Day peaking out from around the corner, the sportswear brand has enlisted the creative styling of StrangeLove Skateboards on a love-themed version.
Textile composition was placed high atop the pair’s priority list with a hearty mix of plush and durable materials employed all throughout. Crushed velvet is used to stylize the vamp, side Swoosh and tongue tab, while douses of sultry suede inform the toe box, eyestay and lower portion of the heel. Other points of interest include the Nike/StrangeLove tag emblazoned on the tongue, with Sean Cliver’s infamous “Heart Skull” graphic etched on the lateral heel. Sitting snugly down below, we see a translucent outsole underlined by a pink lemonade hue, with red and blue hearts smothered under the forefoot and heel.
Strong sentiments of love continue on the packaging, with the team at StrangeLove forging a box that nostalgically resembles old-school Valentines’s Day cards. Along with the custom carton, comes a special card, decals, and a “Fine Pair” blog post, where Cliver chronicles his history with Nike.
The new StrangeLove Skateboards x Nike SB Dunk Low is now available through StrangeLove Skateboards’s web store. In case you missed it earlier, the Air Jordan 1 takes on a bold disco ball-style makeover.
