Mutant Ape Yacht Club Officially Joins the 1 Billion Dollar Club

Fueled by Yuga Labs’ acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits.

It’s true; although NFT sales have continued to cool down over the past few weeks, there are some notable collections out there that have racked up godly numbers of late, one of which being Mutant Ape Yacht Club. Launched initially back in August of 2021, Mutant Ape Yacht Club is an assortment of 20,000 NFTs that magically come to life by exposing an established Bored Ape Yacht Club ape to a mutant serum.

Earlier this week, the second gen BAYC spin-off became only the fifth non-fungible token collection to cross the $1 billion USD sales mark; an impressive feat given its short time in the public spotlight.

Sales for MAYC have soared to record heights over the past seven days after news of Yuga Labs’ acquisition of CryptoPunks and Meebits from Larva Labs. The move had a domino effect of sorts, with CryptoPunks, Meebits, and BAYC also seeing sharp gains within that same window. As it stands now, Axie Infinity leads the way with over $4 billion USD in sales, followed by CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club and Art Blocks.

Visit OpenSea for a look at the full MAYC collection. Meanwhile, in other crypto-related news, LimeWire is set to return as a new NFT marketplace.
