Back in April of this year, fans of Kid Cudi rejoiced with the long-awaited release of “Leader of the Delinquents.” The new single marks the artist’s first solo single since 2016’s Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ and his first general release since dropping Kids See Ghosts alongside Kanye West in 2018. As with most major music releases in today’s pop-culture landscape, Cudi looked to further solidify his latest project with a thematic merch line designed by, arguably, the hottest commodity in fashion today; Virgil Abloh.
Inspiration for the capsule’s creative apex lies in a characteristic render of “Cudders” himself grabbing his ‘junk’ while ‘flipping the bird’ to nearby paparazzi, with the text “Leader of the Delinquents” inscribed in a graffiti-style scrawl. To refresh, the image is an ode to an unpleasant run-in the rapper had with press outlet TMZ back in 2012. Playfully titled, Kid Cudi c/o Virgil Abloh “Pulling Strings,” the image finds itself accenting a clean white T-shirt, in addition to a 7” vinyl of the track, 12” picture disc and a cassette tape.
