Helmut Lang Hits up Social Media to Announce Limited-Edition T-Shirt Contest

For those unaware of Helmut Lang’s place amongst the pioneering figureheads responsible for defining contemporary menswear codes, the revered, yet oft-misunderstood design maestro is all but secure where he stands. Completely ahead of his time in the eyes of many, it was Lang who first juxtaposed utilitarian hardware against provocative bondage straps and functional workwear; three such genres currently dominating the luxury landscape. While the newer generation of style savants pay reverence to such imprints as ALYX and Off-White™, respectively, Lang’s eponymous label is positioning itself to reclaim its place amongst those of influence.

As such, the label is calling out to all of its followers for some design inspiration. Just this past weekend, the label took to social media inviting one and all to create an “original Helmut Lang graphic, drawing, or image.” From here, the top submissions will be put to a vote on April 27 via @helmutlang, of which the label will choose its favorites to then be shared via Instagram Stories. The top three submissions will be printed on a limited-edition T-shirt to be sold on Helmut Lang’s official web store, in addition to receiving a $1,000 USD gift card.

All designs must contain some reference to the label, however, cannot include any sort of archival advertisements and/or imagery, including the use of people imagery. Taking the current Coronavirus pandemic climate into consideration, all entries must be completed from home.
