Chinese New Year is officially around the corner, and with that comes a collaborative capsule involving two of the most revered names in their respective industries. Picking up from their previous “Three Little Pigs” collection, Gucci and Disney link up for CNY yet again, this time centered around this year’s featured zodiac animal. In honor of 2020’s symbolic rat, Disney’s central character, Mickey Mouse, can be seen bombarding several of the offering’s key items, including hoodies, T-shirts, crewneck pullovers, button-down shirts, jackets, cardigans, and accessories, amongst others.
Statement garb aside, the duo forged a new canvas print, fusing nostalgic elements borrowed from both. The textile spotlights Gucci’s interlocking G pattern with playful Mickey Mouse caricatures imbued throughout. An homage to a classic ‘80s fabric, the expressive print respectfully finds a home on a bevy of small leather goods, luggage and shoes.
Alessandro Michele’s signature style permeates throughout, as can been seen in the eclectic mix of colors, patterns, silhouettes and textiles. For instance, embroidered patches, jacquard motifs, and artistic renderings juxtapose alongside each other in a way that intersects the old with the new. The full Disney x Gucci capsule is available now via Gucci’s web store.
