Initially hitting the scene back in 1988, the original Air Jordan 3 did well to compliment Michael Jordan’s gravity-defying style of play, while also blessing the basketball-centric sneaker scene a shoe that made waves, both on and off the court. And now, with NBA All-Star Weekend just a few short weeks away, Jordan Brand is readying the release of the Air Jordan 3 “Retro U.” Meant to drop as an exclusive release for the popular basketball affair, creative emphasis is placed squarely on the fire-red Chicago Bulls-inspired color scheme, alluding of course to Chi-Town’s very own hosting duties.
Splashes of vibrant red surround the upper from front to back, with the silhouette’s signature elephant print skewed along the front bumper and heel tab, while subtle smidges of grey break up the vamp and collar region from its base structure. “NIKE CHI” branding takes up real estate atop the black heel badge, underscored further by the Jumpman logo stitched across the tongue.
Housed directly below, an air-infused midsole sits sandwiched between the bold upper design and the grey-hued outsole. Set to a retail price of $200 USD, the new AJ3 will drop at all participating Jordan Brand stockists on February 15. Meanwhile, in other sneaker news, Nike just unveiled a new weatherized Air Force 1 GORE TEX.
